What It Means to Be a People-Forward Company

"People forward." You might roll your eyes. Please hear me out.

I don't claim to have come up with the phrase, but I love it for businesses under 250 employees. At Innovative Outsourcing it's one we are fully adopting. We want to be a people-forward company, and we want to work with people-forward companies.

But what does that actually look like in practice?

A Different Definition of Success

At its core, a people-forward company is an organization that treats the wellbeing, growth, and experience of its employees as the primary driver of its success.

Instead of viewing staff as "resources" to be optimized, these companies treat people as the foundation of the business. The philosophy is simple and powerful: happy, supported, engaged people produce better results for customers and shareholders.

The Six Random People Test

Here's the challenge for every leader reading this.

If I interviewed six random people in your company and gave them that definition, would they say your company is people-forward?

If the answer is "no," or "I'm not sure," you might reasonably ask why it matters. Is this a feel-good HR trend, or is there real business value behind it?

The Business Case

According to Gallup, the difference between engaged and unengaged employees isn't just morale. It's measurable performance. Companies with high employee engagement see:

  • 23% higher profitability

  • 14% higher productivity

  • 21-51% less turnover

  • 78% less absenteeism

Beyond the numbers, we know from experience that retention and hiring both get significantly easier when you operate this way.

Our Commitment

This year, all of our communications at Innovative Outsourcing look through the lens of becoming a people-forward company. We're doing it not just because it helps the bottom line, but because we believe it's the right way to do business.

If you want to become — or already are — a people-forward company, we'd love to partner with you.
